WIHT TO BOW OUT AT DESRTFEST!
Mega chuffed to be playing this badboy!!
Words by Desertfest - It’s with a mixture of happiness and sadness confirming the mighty Wiht. Clearly we are very happy to have the instrumental 3 piece playing at Desertfest, but sadness that this will be their last ever gig. The 3 piece grew up together in Kirkstall, Leeds(UK) and out of many a jamming session Wiht was born. If you haven’t listened to these guys before, your in for a treat never sticking to one genre moving around from stoner to psych and even some gloomy doom. They have released a S/T e.p and more recently their debut album ‘The Harrowing of The North’. So DO NOT MISS OUT! on what will be the last time to hear the riffing instrumental wonderment that is Wiht.

A Forest of Stars
A Forest of Stars have been at the forefront of UK black metal for quite a few years, with their original blend of Victorian influenced black metal and their fitting attire they still remain so. Having had the pleasure of playing bass for them many moons ago and sharing a stage a few times with my band Wiht, I know them all very well. They have released two full length records, the first being The Corpse of Rebirth, released back in 2008 (which I had the pleasure of playing live!) is a steam powered masterpiece of the highst degree, with Mr Curse's vocals haunting enough to make the ghost of Queen Vic' herself cower in fear.

Their second record, Opportunistic Thieves of Spring, is totally different to The Corpse of Rebirth, a lot darker, and leaves you feeling that bit more lonely. My favourites of this record have to be Summertide’s Approach, and Thunders Cannonade.

We are currently waiting on their third release, I can't wait for this bad boy. To my knowledge it has been completed and are now waiting for a release date. Sweeeet.
I'm sure they will be doing a few live shows to support their new album so be sure to check them out. They will crush you.
Wiht Final gig. Royal Park Cellars, 30th March

Wizards Beard - Four Tired Undertaker (2012)
Leeds grotty doom heads Wizards Beard release their second full length album Four Tired Undertakers through Altsphere Productions on 10th Feb 2012. Be sure to grab one while you can, if their first release is anything to go by I'd imagine it'll be pretty rotten, but I have had first hand info that it promises even more angry, and even more nasty. And I'd imagine filthier than Mook Studios toilet floor!
You can buy one from their website here or from the album lauch party on 18th Feb - Four Tired Undertakers
Godspeed you! Black Emperor - Slow Riot for New Zerø Kanada (1999)
Montreal based Post Rock masters Godspeed You! Black Emperor released this two track EP back in 1999. You will lose yourself in this record, as you will with any GY!BE relesaes. Enjoy.
Fans of Post rock/epic/political/progressive.
Jonas Reinhardt - Music for the Tactile Dome (2011)
I bought this on a whim with my Christmas bonus in '11, never hearing even the name Jonas Reinhardt before.
Got it home, placed it carefully on my turntable and sat down.....
A good few moments later I awoke from my synth-trance wondering what the hell had just happened to my brain! This is without doubt some of the best synth work I have ever heard, vintage 70's style sounding keys with layers and loops thrown over the top, basically psychedelic Floyd without the strings.
Christmas day I showed it to my mate in my bedroom. Both sat on the floor near the speakers, cranked it to pretty much full and got lost in the whirling sounds been blown toward us.
Fans of psych/hypnotic/synth/atmospheric.
Aidan Baker - Broken & Remade (2007)
Aidan Baker, being the front man of Toronto based Nadja, has released countless full-lengths, splits, collaborations both with Nadja and as Aidan Baker. This one, being one of his 16 (!!!) releases from 2007, Broken and Remade sums up Aidan Baker in the album title alone. He has taken atmospheric drone to a completely new level, looping and laying countless different sounds to create a beautiful layer of audio bliss.
Would recommend to those who likes to lose themselves in the drone state.
Birds of Passage – Winter Lady (2011)
Fantastic, beautiful, sparse new drone from New Zealand's solo artist Alicia Merz. Winter Lady is her third release to date, after her second album, which is a collaboration with Leonardo Rosado; Dear and Unfamiliar (which I am still currently waiting on delivery), and her first full length Without the Word.
I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys hearing new things.
It's like a haunting lullaby.
It's like a haunting lullaby.
Wiht March '09 - March '12
It is with sadness and a great sense of pride, that we have decided to call it a day. This is a completely amicable decision and has been made in the best interests of the band. It has come to a point where we are no longer able to progress and take the band further, we feel this band deserves more respect than just to fade away. This simply is an issue of lack of time and funds; two of the three of us now have families and time has become a lot more precious. To progress as a band we need to dedicate a certain ammount of time to write and record, let alone gigging and touring. This is why we have decided to call it a day at a point where we feel this is something to be proud of.
To have played and made music in a band comprised of three oldest and best mates for three years has been an absolute pleasure. We feel incredibly proud of what we have accheived with the limited time and resources that we have had. We are not for one moment suggesting this is something exclusive to our band, many bands manage to write, record and tour with limited funds and with children, unfortunately it hasn't worked for us.
We would like to thank the following bands and people for your huge support and influence over the years, it wouldn't have been possible without you. Ross at Ghosttown Studios, Neil Best Edward, Dan at Desertscene Rock, Dave at Future Noise, Chris at Witch Hunter Records, Matthew Lee, Charlie Barnes, Elles, all our friends and family Ceara, Lorna, Bekki, Sydney, Vincent & Oscar.
Huge shout to the bands we have played with and that have helped us out, Khuda; Wizards Beard, Tree of Sores, A Forest of Stars, Haar, Undersmile, Desert Storm, Conan, Slabdragger, Dead Existence, Lords of Bastard & everyone else that we have had the pleasure of sharing the stage with.
But don't fret, we have a killer finale for you. Line-up including Khuda, Wiards Beard and Tree of Sores on 30th March at Royal Park Cellars, it would be amazing if you could come and send us off Leeds style! Wiht Finale
But before that we will be helping Wizards Beard celebrate their album launch at the same venue on 18th February with some killer bands from around the UK. Four Tired Undertakers
Hails and Ales.
